Federation Afro Diaspora Network

ABOUT US
The Afro Diaspora Network Federation (FADN) is an international umbrella organization committed to representing, connecting, and strengthening organizations, initiatives, and communities of African descent worldwide. Guided by a shared vision, we work to increase social impact, visibility, and structural influence.

With particular attention to the Netherlands, the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Suriname, FADN focuses on themes such as social justice, heritage and identity, education, civic participation, and sustainable development.

We encourage cross-border collaboration and promote knowledge exchange among organizations, professionals, and communities. FADN serves as a platform, a dialogue partner, and an advocate. By joining forces and aligning agendas, we create a strong collective voice toward governments, civil society institutions, and international partners.
In this way, we contribute to structural solutions to issues affecting the Afro-diaspora.
We are more than a network; we are a movement. A movement that believes in solidarity, cooperation, and shared leadership. Together, we build sustainable connections and a future in which the voices of our members resonate powerfully, locally, nationally, and globally.

Position of the Federation: Culture, Values and Inclusivity
The Federation deliberately chooses not to establish a specific cultural, religious, or philosophical norm.
The term Afro refers to a shared origin within the African diaspora, but not to a single, uniform culture. Africa consists of many countries and regions, each with its own cultural traditions. Culture is shaped by geography and personal experience and therefore cannot be defined or fixed by a federation without excluding others.
For this reason, the Federation does not position itself as a normative authority in matters of culture or religion. Such a stance would inevitably lead to exclusion, whereas the Federation was founded to foster connection and to support the development of the community.
Shared Cultural Values
What the Federation does recognize and support are shared cultural values that arise from a common history and social context. These values are expressed through connecting forms of expression such as:
-
food and coming together,
-
dance and movement,
-
music and rhythm,
-
art, storytelling, and creativity.
These expressions do not constitute a fixed culture or prescribed norm. Rather, they are ways in which people meet, recognize one another, and connect — regardless of differences in origin, religion, or tradition.
Our Core Values
The Federation acts from cultural values that translate into broader social principles, including:
-
respect and equality,
-
inclusivity and accessibility,
-
solidarity within the community,
-
space for diversity,
-
transparency and accountability,
-
development and emancipation of the community.
The Federation provides an open and inclusive platform in which cultural expression is welcomed without being defined or imposed. In this way, the Federation remains accessible to all and is able to contribute to connection, empowerment, and shared progress.
